Smart waste container

Measurement is knowledge
Together with our partner Milgro, WSS has developed a product and system that enables the measurement and registration of internal waste logistics. The regular waste container is a smart container which can be traced. The system provides insight that could potentially lead to a reduction of workinghours.

Smart chips
To give companies insight into their waste management, WSS Infocard Systems, in collaboration with Milgro, developed a chip that can be attached to a container. This makes a waste container fully traceable. The number of movements can be measured. After assessing the data, it is possible to determine what and where to optimize. The ultimate goal is to make adjustments in the working method.

How the system works
A chip is placed on a wheelcontainer and readingbeacons are placed at strategic points. As soon as the container passes a beacon, we measure the travelling time between the beacons. If you know how much time is involved, you can assess what you can do to reduce that time. In that way, following questions can be answered.

Is the container at a location where waste generated?
Are there too many container movements?
Are the containers full enough? Or maybe you should work with other collection products like a smallwaste press?

Container Tracking Run
To test the innovation, WSS Infocard Systems and Milgro organized a so-called Container Tracking Run. Employees of WSS and Milgro ran, spread over several teams, a round of almost one kilometer with a smart wheelcontainer to see which team managed to collect its waste most efficiently. Four beacons were positioned around the building and we could immediately see who performed best. That is a way to gain data in waste logistics.

Logistics service provider CEVA Logistics is the first company to actually use the smart waste containers. Based on the data, CEVA Logistics will soon be able to organize its processes more efficiently. We look forward to the results implementation.
